A school board may discharge a superintendent before the expiration of the contract term. [PL 1981, c. 693, §§ 5, 8 (NEW).]

1. Requirements. The superintendent may be discharged only: A. For cause; [PL 1981, c. 693, §§5, 8 (NEW).] B. After due notice and investigation; and [PL 1981, c. 693, §§5, 8 (NEW).] C. By a majority vote of the full membership of the school board. [PL 1981, c. 693, §§5, 8 (NEW).] [PL 1981, c. 693, §§5, 8 (NEW).]

2. Salary. On discharge, the superintendent's salary shall cease. [PL 1981, c. 693, §§ 5, 8 (NEW).]

3. Appeal. The superintendent may appeal the school board's decision to the commissioner. The commissioner shall hold a hearing as part of the appeal. [PL 1981, c. 693, §§ 5, 8 (NEW).]
