01. Mandatory Certification. Except as otherwise provided in these rules, no person shall act as a peace officer, marine deputy, county detention officer, emergency communications officer, juvenile detention officer , juvenile probation officer, correctional officer, adult probation and parole officer, juvenile direct care staff o r misdemeanor probation officer in Idaho unless they are certified to do so by POST in accordance with these rules. (3-31-22) 02. Voluntary Certification for Correctional Officers and Adult Probation and Parole Officers Employed Prior to July 1, 2005. Correctional officers and adult probation and parole officers who were employe d prior to July 1, 2005 are not required to be POST certified in those disciplines, but may become certified by meetin g all requirements for certification set forth in these rules. (3-31-22) 03. Voluntary Certification for Emergency Communications Officers Employed Prior to July 1, 2012. Emergency Communications Officers who were employed prior to July 1, 2012 are not required to be POS T certified, but may become certified by meeting all requirements for certification set forth in these rules. (3-31-22) 04. Voluntary Certification for Certain Officials. The director of the Idaho State Police or an y elected official, although specifically excluded by law from meeting the requirements set by the Council, may b e certified if they so desire, provided they meet the minimum requirements for certification as prescribed in these rules.
