The opinion

WINDOM, Presiding Judge, concurring in part and dissenting in part.

For the reasons stated in my special writing in Smith v. State , 246 So. 3d 1086 , 1117 (Ala. Crim. App. 2017), I respectfully dissent from the majority's decision to reverse Gaston's sentence of death. In the remainder of the opinion, I concur.
