The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska Environmental Protection Department (EPD) operates the Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) site NE25 under
the Clean Air Act (CAA) Section 103 grant program. This monitoring collects precipitation samples to measure total mercury concentration (ng/L)
and calculate wet deposition flux (μg/m²), providing high-quality, quality-assured data on atmospheric mercury inputs to Tribal lands.
Although the CAA Section 103 air program does not conduct fish tissue sampling or direct bioaccumulation assessments, the mercury deposition
data generated are routinely shared with the Tribe’s CAA Section 106 Water Pollution Control Program. This inter-program coordination supports
integrated environmental management and enhances the Tribe’s ability to address mercury-related concerns across air and water media.
