Species Inspection prior to launching at Pyramid Lake. Boaters

will receive a paper inspection receipt to place on dashboard of

trailering vehicle for Ranger verification. Inspection is valid for

the duration of permitting period meaning consecutive days on

the water; inspection is only required on day 1 of a 2 or 3-day

permit; original inspection is valid for consecutive 2-3 day permits. For every visit after your permit permitting period, watercraft will need to be re-inspected.

The Inspection Station will be open at 6:00am, 7 Days a Week.

Day to avoid long wait times on October 1st. Inspections are valid for up to 3 days prior to the permit date and for full duration of

permitting period, if watercraft has not launched elsewhere within that time frame. After passing an inspection, a valid certification of inspection will be provided by authorized Tribal personnel and must be displayed on the dashboard of the trailering vehicle. Arriving Clean, Drained, and Dry will help protect Pyramid Lake and get you on the water faster.

Inspections are free. Decontamination fees can be avoided by

arriving at the Watercraft Inspection Station Clean, Drained, and

Dry. Boaters will be charged $15 for the first system decontaminated and an additional $5 for each system after that.

The Pyramid Lake Tribal Council approved the monthly Clean,

Drained, and Dry raffle/drawing for the 2025-2026 season. All

boats that arrive Clean, Drained, and Dry will receive an entry

into the raffle for a chance to win one-month of free boating.

One winner will be selected at the end of each month and will

receive a letter of exemption in the mail that will serve as boating

permit for the following month. Award only exempts individual

from boat permit requirements for 1-month and is only valid for

the specific vessel that was entered into the raffle. All other regulations, including mandatory watercraft inspections, still apply.

The letter of exemption must be available to present to Tribal

personnel upon request. Award is non-transferable.

For boaters, please have a valid boating permit before arriving at

the lake. Make sure to have enough life jackets for use, emergency lights, fire extinguisher on board, flare or flare guns in

case of emergency, whistles or air horns; wind conditions at the

lake can happen suddenly, and boaters must leave the lake when

white caps are present. Pyramid Lake can be dangerous to anyone who doesn’t respect its warnings.

Marina) will open at 6:00 am for Opening Day (October 1,

2025). Store hours: I-80 Smokeshop: 6:00 am –9:00 pm; Nixon

PYRAMID LAKE MANDATORY WATERCRAFT

INSPECTIONS

The Watercraft Inspection Station is located at the junction of

Sutcliffe Drive and State Route 445 and will be open at

6:00am, 7 days a week.

Sutcliffe, Nevada - Starting October 1, 2025, all motorized

and/or trailered watercraft will be required to undergo a mandatory Aquatic Invasive Species Inspection prior to launching

at Pyramid Lake. The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Council approved this new regulation to strengthen protection of Pyramid

Lake and the Truckee River from invasive mussels.

Golden mussels, first discovered in California’s Sacramento–

San Joaquin Delta in 2024, can survive in a wide range of

conditions and reproduce rapidly. This adaptability makes

them an especially serious threat to Pyramid Lake and its surrounding waters.

The Truckee River mouth is the most vulnerable area for invasive mussel survival and reproduction. If established, mussels

are nearly impossible to remove and can cause lasting damage to fisheries, beaches, and water systems. These new regulations emphasize prevention as the most effective way to

protect Pyramid Lake for future generations.

For these reasons, the following regulation changes go

into effect October 1, 2025:

Mandatory Inspections Beginning OCTOBER 1, 2025– All

motorized and/or trailered watercraft must be inspected prior

to launching at Pyramid Lake. Boaters will receive a paper

inspection receipt to place on dashboard of trailering vehicle

for Ranger verification. Inspection is valid for the duration of

permitting period meaning consecutive days on the water; inspection is only required on day one of a 2 or 3-day permit,

original inspection is valid for multiple, consecutive 2-3 day

permits. For every visit after that permitting period, watercraft

will need to be re-inspected. Unlawfully launching watercraft

without inspection: Bond schedule-$500

Inspection Station will be Open at 6:00am – 7 Days a

Week. Updated hours will be posted as needed on Facebook:

@Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Aquatic Invasive Species Program and website www.PyramidLakeAIS.org or call (775) 574

-1050 ext.22 for more information.

Drain Plug Rule – All boats must be trailered with plugs out

and valves open while on Reservation roads. Unlawfully trailering watercraft with plugs in and valves closed: Bond schedule- $250

Truckee River Mouth “Boating Closed Waters Expansion”

– It is unlawful to boat within 1.25 miles of the Truckee River

mouth. The river mouth is the highest risk area for invasive

mussels invasion. The closed area is from the south end of

Cattleguard Beach (just north of Popcorn Rock) extending to

the east end of Howards Bay at the beginning of sandy cliffs.

For example, 1.25 miles is approximately the distance from

the Reno Arch to the University of Nevada - Reno. New regu-

lation brochures will be published with a centerfold map for

reference. No changes have been made to shore fishing/day

use/camping in this area. Unlawfully boating on closed waters:

Bond schedule-$500

Non-Motorized, Hand-Launched Watercraft – All nonmotorized, hand-launch vessels such as canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and inflatables are asked to complete a SelfInspection Form (drop boxes at Pelican Boat Launch, Ranger

Station, Nixon and Pyramid Highway Creel Station’s).

Decontamination Fees – Boats with standing water, mud,

plants, or animals must be decontaminated before launch-No

cash will Be accepted for decontamination, card required to

process payment. If decontamination is required, payments

will be processed at inspection station, using the Tribal permitting website.

Preparing for inspections: Consider getting inspected in the

days leading up to the Opener to avoid long wait times on October 1. Inspections are valid for up to 3 days prior to the permit date and for full duration of permitting period, if watercraft

has not launched elsewhere within that time frame. Arrive for

an inspection Clean, Drained, and Dry. Clean all visible mud,

plants, and water from hull and trailer. Ensure all compartments are Drained including live-wells, bait-wells, anchor lockers, and bilge. A wet/dry shop-vac can help remove water

from these areas, or a towel if water is minimal. Dry all equipment such as ropes/lines and lifejackets/personal floatation

devices. Lower and raise motors and out-drive several times

to drain water.

Fees: Inspections are free. Decontamination fees can be

avoided by arriving at the Watercraft Inspection Station Clean,

Drained, and Dry. Boaters will be charged $15 for the first system decontaminated and an additional $5 for each system after that.

Incentive: Pyramid Lake Tribal Council approved the monthly

Clean, Drained, and Dry raffle/drawing for the 2025-2026 season. All boats that arrive Clean, Drained, and Dry will receive

an entry into the raffle for a chance to win one-month of free

boating. One winner will be selected at the end of each month

and will receive a letter of exemption in the mail that will serve

as boating permit for the following month. Award only exempts

individual from boat permit requirements for 1-month and is

only valid for the specific vessel that was entered into the raffle. All other regulations, including mandatory watercraft inspections, still apply. The letter of exemption must be available to present to Tribal personnel upon request. Award is nontransferable.

The decision to amend the regulations was the result of careful, thoughtful consideration and was not made lightly. We recognize that many boaters have been frequenting Pyramid

Lake for years and that these changes will require adjustments and planning. The problem has been studied thoroughly, and these are the recommendations to best protect Pyramid Lake from this new threat in an ever-changing world.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
