Ponca staff say NO MORE in March

The Domestic Violence Department Participated in NO MORE

Week in March. The goal is to

inspire people to join the movement to end domestic violence

and sexual assault, and to create

a culture of safety, equality, and

respect in our communities. Some

staff took part in standing up and

telling what NO MORE meant to

them. You can learn more about

Environmental

May is National Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month

Allison Gienapp

Air Technician

May is National Allergy

and Asthma Awareness

Month and has been

observed as such since

1984. This month was so

dedicated to increase the

awareness of allergies and

how allergens can trigger

asthma symptoms. Asthma is a serious chronic respiratory disease that can

affect anyone at any time.

Asthma cannot be cured,

but it can be controlled

with medical treatment

and the management of

environmental triggers.

Many of the indoor allergens are also asthma

triggers, meaning that

they can cause asthma

symptoms or an asthma

attack. These triggers can

range anywhere from

mold and dust mites to

cleaning supplies and

artificial fragrances and

more. One of the simplest

ways to control asthma

symptoms is to remove

the triggers from the

environment. By removing these triggers from

the home you can also

help with your indoor air

quality.

bring awareness to

environmental issues in

our communities and

on land. On Monday,

members were challenged to recycle any

plastic or paper they

use throughout the day,

protecting the environment by saving a tree

from getting cut down,

and saving energy. On

Tuesday, we challenged

members to pick up trash

at a local park. We find

this to be very important because Standing

Bear Lake, in Omaha,

is named after Chief

Standing Bear. Unfortunately, there is often litter around the lake. It is

important that we take a

stand and clean up parks

like this. On Wednesday,

we asked that members

water plants. Plants need

to stay hydrated and

moist to survive. Since

summer is right around

the corner, we will need

to remember to water

plants so they will be

healthy during humid and

dry conditions. Thursday,

April 22nd, was Earth

asked that staff and Ponca

members post a picture

Earth Ambassadors! On

Friday, we challenged

members to unplug and

go outside for some fresh

air, to help everyone appreciate our Earth and

feel inspired to take care

of it! Those who participated in the challenges

throughout the week had

a chance to win a basket

Member’s Corner

Welcome!

In Memory

The Howe family is growing - we have two new

babies in 2021! Liam Burton Riley was born on

January 11, 2021, to parents Dalton and Kylie

Riley. Charlotte Liberty York was born on March

11, 2021, to parents Joseph and Abigayle York.

Charlotte joins two siblings, Joseph Bradley

(born 2017) and Lyanna Scarlett (born 2019). The

new babies’ mothers, Kylie and Abigayle, are

sisters and are the daughters of Aaron and Carrie

(Howe) Davis; they are also the great-great-greatgranddaughters of George Washington Howe and

Lucille Leclair.

Mark Wilderman, second from left, was a long time employee of the Fred

LeRoy Health & Wellness Center. He is pictured here with colleagues at a

staff gathering.

In March, the Fred LeRoy Health & Wellness Center

lost one of our employees – Mark Wilderman. Mark

was known for his great sense of humor and his

dedication to our patients. Outside of work, Mark

had a love for body building, biking (once making a

bike trek across the country!), music, and of course

his family. Both his co-workers and our clients will

miss him dearly.

Mary Wilderman, Mark’s mother, shared this

message with the Ponca Tribe:

Thank you!

Samantha Barritt would like the thank the Ponca
