_______________________________
Hello Tribal People!!
The month of April and May has
been very busy here in the Governor’s Office. There have been
numerous consultations, high school
graduations, school assemblies and
banquets. The consultations were
attended by Tresha Spoon, Education Director of Absentee Shawnee
Tribe and me.
On April 27, 2019 a Special Executive Committee Meeting was
called by Secretary Johnson and
was supported by Treasurer Ellis
and Representative Fletcher. There
were two actions taken by resolution. One Resolution was to terminate the Attorney General Hobbs,
Strauss, Dean and Walker (AG) and
the second Resolution was to take
the oversite of the Self-Governance
Department from the Lt. Governor
and place it under Treasurer Ellis.
There was a room full of tribal members who expressed their
concerns of these two actions. One
tribal member spoke of not terminating the AG’s due to an ongoing
settlement in progress and they
would like to see this being settled
prior to terminating the AG. But
action was taken and the Resolution
was voted on with Treasurer Ellis –
Yes, Representative Fletcher – Yes,
Governor Butler-Wolfe – No and
Lt. Governor Blanchard – Absent.
Due to Secretary Johnson chairing
the meeting, he was unable to vote
unless there was a tie. The Resolution passed to terminate the Attorney General.
The second action was the
Self-Governance Department. As
one tribal member expressed their
concern and stated the tabling of
the Resolution due to this action
seemed to be a personnel issue
and not an action that needed to be
done until thought of thoroughly.
Again the voice of the tribal people
was not taken in consideration and
action was taken: Treasurer Ellis
Yes, Representative Fletcher – Yes,
Governor Butler-Wolfe – No and
Lt. Governor Blanchard – Absent.
Due to Secretary Johnson chairing
the meeting, he was unable to vote
unless there was a tie. The Resolution passed to move the Self-Governance Department under the oversite of Treasurer Ellis.
The two Resolutions were signed
by Secretary Johnson and Treasurer
Ellis.
Since being in office as your Governor for the past 6 years I have
worked with 3 different Treasurers
and the Self-Governance Depart-
ment has been the oversight of the
Lt. Governor and has never been
under the Treasurer. The Department of Self-Governance is a
department that all elected offices
use in our Government positions.
In official Government meetings as
government to government or round
table discussions it is the top leaders
of a Nation or Tribe that the Government officials recognize.
I have witnessed so many personality changes in our tribal people
once they are elected to an office.
It seems they become power crazy
as if they have never had a ranked
job before. It has been brought
to my attention that I am against
everything and my answer is; how
can I be against anything if I do not
know what I am suppose be against.
Being in office has been challenging due to the bad practice of 3 out
of the 5 elected officials side up
against the other 2 elected officials.
It is our people that suffer and our
programs that we offer for our
people that get the short end of such
behavior. Thinking back in past
administrations, it has been a major
problem with elected officials not
knowing their role or not knowing
what did or did not work in the past.
We seem to hire and rehire people
back to the tribe that did wrong doing to the tribe and elsewhere. My
hope is, there is some training of
elected officials, when elected that
each one would sit down with the
Attorney General (AG’s) to go over
their roles when taking office. This
could be a beginning of solving our
decades of 3 against 2 or 4 against 1
problem.
On May 17th there was a luncheon
at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech with
guest speaker Lt. Governor Matt
Pinnell of Oklahoma. His speech
was on Tourism here in Oklahoma.
After the luncheon I had a chance
to talk to Lt. Governor Pinnell on
topics of Gaming and Education.
The attendance was low; it could
have been due to many area schools
last day and assemblies that was
going on.

Secretary’s Report
By John Johnson
AST Secretary
Treasurer Report
By Phillip Ellis
AST Treasurer
Tribal Members,
During this month’s newsletter I would
like to take this opportunity to address
a couple of topics that resulted from the
April 2019 General Council meeting.
First, the minor’s trust interest question.
Next, I would like to address the Governor’s General Council report.
First, during the April 2019
General Council meeting, I was asked if
the minor’s trust will pay the lump sum
interest to the tribe’s general fund or if
it will be an individual’s interest that
is paid to the minor when distributed.
As promised, I have followed up with
ABG Southwest, our minor’s trust recordkeeping administrator. They have
stated that the individual getting a distribution from the minor’s trust will get
an individual portion of the trust interest
at the time of distribution.
Next, the Governor reported in
her General Council Report a number of
misleading statements and outright false
allegations. As a result of her report, I
felt it was necessary for the tribe’s independent financial auditor to perform
procedures looking at the transfer of
funds on January 16, 2019. Below is
the report that I received:
INDEPENDENT ACCOUNTANTS’ REPORT ON APPLYING
AGREED-UPON PROCEDURES
Mr. Phil Ellis, Treasurer
Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma
We have performed the procedures enumerated below, which were
agreed to by Phil Ellis, Treasurer of the
Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma
(the “specified party”) related to the
January 16, 2019 transfer of funds
from the Absentee Shawnee Tribal
Health Authority Third Party Revenue
account to the Absentee Shawnee
Tribal Health Program’s account. The
Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma’s
(the “Tribe”) management was
responsible for the transfer of funds
from the Absentee Shawnee Tribal
Health Authority Third Party Revenue
account to the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Health Program’s account on January
16, 2019. The sufficiency of
these procedures is solely the responsibility of the party specified in this report. Consequently, we make no
representation regarding the sufficiency
of the procedures enumerated below either for the purpose for which
this report has been requested or for any
other purpose.
Staff Report
The staff of the Governor and Lt.
Governor have been working diligently on various programs for the tribal
members; “Domestic Violence VAWA,
Full Faith and Credit, Absentee Shawnee Tribal Law Codes, Child Support,
Absentee Shawnee Graduation Stoles,
Reintegration, Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance, United Indians of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas.
Violence Against Woman Act
(VAWA)
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA),
includes a vital reaffirmation of Tribal Nations’ inherent power to protect
Native women from abuse by non-Indian partners by prosecuting those
abusers in tribal court. In the United
States, violence against Native women
has reached devastating levels on tribal
lands. The Absentee Shawnee Tribe
will utilize the Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction (SDVCJ)
to bring more safety and justice to our
communities.
Full Faith and Credit
Full Faith and Credit means the Courts
of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of
Oklahoma are hereby authorized to
issue an Administrative Order/Rule
which grants reciprocity to judgments
of the Courts of the State of Oklahoma,
and is further authorized to provide the
Administrative Office of the Courts of
the State of Oklahoma, and any federally recognized Indian nation, tribe,
band or political subdivision thereof,
with such Order/Rule for the purposes of granting full faith and credit to
judgments of the Courts of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and
to grant reciprocity to the judgments
of the Courts of the State of Oklahoma
and of any federally recognized Indian
nation, tribe, band or political subdivision thereof.
Absentee Shawnee Tribal Law Codes
The purpose of updating the Absentee
Shawnee Tribal law codes is to design
and implement a comprehensive justice
system with remedies and rights of law
that restore healing and balance within
the tribal community. The mission is to
strengthen the tribal justice system of
the Absentee Shawnee Tribe, to enhance public safety; prevent and reduce
harmful effects of criminal behavior
and sanction offenders fairly and justly;
and do so efficiently and effectively
based on our tribal constitution and
Code of Laws.
Absentee Shawnee Tribe Child Support Services
Child support programs assist families
to obtain and maintain self-sufficiency
by holding absent parents legally responsible for the financial well-being of
their children. The Modoc child support
program has been unable to meet the
needs of the Absentee Shawnee Tribal
members and children due to jurisdictional and cultural issues. Lack of this
crucial service has caused many tribal
Our procedures and findings are as follows:

We obtained the Li Si Wi Nwi

children and their families to do without for a very long time. Tribal child
support programs are bound by different regulations than state programs, but
both state and tribal regulations contain
the same basic requirements that they
must be able to establish paternity,
establish, enforce and modify child
support orders and they have to be able
to locate both custodial and non-custodial parents and their assets.
Absentee Shawnee Graduation Stoles
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe Stole
Program, administered by Governor
and the AST Education Department,
offers graduates a special honor stole
to wear at their commencement. The
Governor has long believed education
is the springboard to a brighter future
for our people. The stole is a simple but
meaningful way the tribe can reward
students who have completed their
educational goals. We encourage our
Absentee Shawnee graduates to share
the joy of their special day by posting
photos of themselves in their stoles
at graduation and tagging the various
social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Attaining
a high School degree is a truly momentous occasion and something to be
proud of for a lifetime. In turn, it also
encourages younger students to achieve
their goals by showing them what is
possible.
Reintegration for Imprisoned Tribal
Members
We first met with the Central Oklahoma Workforce Innovation Board in
June of 2018 regarding the need for
resources to assist inmates transitioning
from incarceration to returning citizens
with work clothing, tools, boots, and/
or helpful information. The inmates
receive skill training while in the corrections system then prior to release,
Mr. Moore, the Regional Coordinator,
Career Tech Skills Center Division,
locates employment in the community
where each individual is returning.
Their program is very productive however funds are limited and are unable to
be in all prisons.
According to the FY2017 State of
Oklahoma Prisons data, there were 21
Absentee Shawnee Tribal Members incarcerated. (4 Females and 17 Males)
Many of them are receiving the AST
Newspaper and are looking for a source
for personal Hygiene items.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
(VITA)
A Volunteer Tax preparation for the
employees and tribal members for the
tax year 2018 filed 71 Federal and 70
State returns. According to our IRS

In conclusion, I find it disturbing that Governor Butler-Wolfe’s con-
tinually attacks and misleads with no
regard to truth or fact. Communication,
transparency, internal controls, etc.; it’s
there. I for one don’t make statements
or take actions based on anonymous envelopes sent to my home. But rather, I
try to make decisions and take actions
using my best judgment and/or on the
recommendations of good and competent people who have been appointed or
hired that have the best interest of the
Tribe in mind. Rather than show genuine leadership and support for our health
care system, the governor has chosen to
disparage and allege wrong doing by the
Health Board, Health Management, and
members of the Executive Committee.
Moreover, it’s unfortunate that these attacks and misrepresentations aren’t just
contained to the health care system. I
have come to question her judgement,
leadership, and qualifications to be the
leader of a 21st century organization.

Greetings Tribal Members:
My Cultural Preservation and
Human Resources Departments will
be providing their quarterly reports this
month. Following is the report on my
activities:
At the end of April, I attended
HUBZone training. As an EC member,
I strongly support economic development growth. In order to successfully
do this, I must engage in training events
that will provide me with the ability to
help me fully understand opportunities
that will financially benefit our tribe
and provide jobs for our tribal members. The benefits of participating in the
HUBZone program can be enormous:
the government’s goal is to award 3% of
its prime contracts to HUBZone entities
annually. Secretary Johnson, Treasurer
Ellis and I are looking into this program
and searching for other opportunities
the will benefit our tribe.
On May 1, I attended the Health
Systems’ Townhall. What a breath of
fresh air—to see how much hard work
and dedication has been put forth to establish such successful clinics for our
tribal members. I look back to my childhood and remember when it was difficult for my parents to get medical assistance and dental work for my family—it
was basically non-existent. My mother
would be so very proud of her Shawnee
people for achieving such a great level
of medical services to our tribal members. I give a big “THANK YOU” to
all of the employees who helped grow
and make our clinics a huge success. A
big “THANK YOU” to Mr. Mark Rogers and the Board of Directors for their
unfaltering dedication and hard work to
make our clinics one of the best tribally
run facilities.
With summer fast approaching,
our tribal members gather for the purpose of honoring the traditions of our
ancestors. The Cultural Preservation
Department is proud to be in a position
to help in providing the rations for our
traditional ceremonies. The CP Director and I delivered rations to the Lenny Grounds, South Grounds and North
Grounds. As the Tribal Representative
and having the oversight of the Cultural Preservation Department, I assure all
tribal members that I will continue to
support our tribal traditions and provide
rations for our three dance grounds.
I attended the Assisted Living
Action Committee meeting wherein we
discussed and reviewed nine organizations that the USDA recommended as
approved companies that conduct feasibility studies. These organizations have
worked with the USDA during the funding application process and understand
the USDA regulations and requirements.
This is the first and most important requirement of the USDA. A feasibility
study is the total of the actions required
and the questions we need answered to
determine whether this idea or plan is
likely to succeed. This feasibility study
can guide us on whether we would recommend moving forward with a plan
for an Assisted Living facility. It is expected that the feasibility study will take
2-3 months to complete. Once a feasi-
June 2019
bility study is completed, we will share
it with the tribe.
On April 25, I participated in the PFAC
monthly meeting. The agenda included
introductions and updates on Behavioral Health Services and Patient Registration. Dara Thorpe (Tribal Member),
Director of Behavioral Health Services,
and Dr. Sean Whelan, BH Medical Director, outlined the processes and procedures for providing BH services. It
was pointed out that John Soap (Tribal
Member), Masters Level Psychotherapist, was instrumental in providing assistance with traditional sweat lodge therapy. Sacha Almanza (Tribal Member),
Patient Registration Director, provided
oversight to her department’s activities
and processes. It was noted that 91% of
her staff are Native American and 63%
of her staff is Absentee Shawnee Tribal
Members. Other agenda items included
the review and discussion of patient satisfaction reports and other Health Board
initiatives. Coming up, PFAC will be
looking at hosting an elder’s community
event. If you have any suggestions or
recommendations, please let me know.
Stay tuned as PFAC continues to gain
momentum.
Congresswoman Kendra Horn’s “Team
Horn” was at the Tecumseh Library on
the afternoon of May 16. I took the opportunity to visit with her Community
Outreach Specialist, Mr. Richard White,
about various tribal concerns on topics
such as the FCC, veterans and sovereignty. We discussed the VA Mission
Act for veterans that were passed in
2018. This Act’s goal is to make it easier for veterans to get care outside the
VA system and improve our veterans’
healthcare. We also discussed tribes’
legal battle against the FCC wherein the
agency removed historic preservation
reviews for small cells and the adverse
impact to tribes. I further, discussed
the importance of protecting our tribal
sovereignty as I believe this FCC ruling
erodes our sovereignty. I asked that Mr.
White reiterate our tribe’s concerns to
Congresswoman Horn and asked that
she support tribes on these matters and
help voice tribes’ concerns.

JUNE 2019
NEYAWI (THANK YOU)
Absentee Shawnee tribal members we appreciate you voting YES on the Proposed
Constitutional Amendment A to remove the Department of Interior (BIA) process out of the
Constitution.
“Amendments or Replacements to the Constitution may be proposed by a resolution of the
Executive Committee, or by petition signed by at least twenty percent (20%) of the eligible
voters of the Tribe. Amendments shall be submitted to a referendum vote and shall be ratified
upon certification of said referendum.”
Amendments A & B was ratified, which means it became effective, Friday, May 10, 2019.
Eligible voters were 346 that registered and total votes of 222 were counted as follows:
Attachment A: Votes were 128 for and 93 against, with 0 cast ballots found separated or
mutilated.
Attachment B: Votes 115 for and 107 against, with 0 case ballots found separated or mutilated.
Executive Committee terms extended to four (4) years.
CCSGs’ Concerns and Questions:
1. Ballots not contained full information of Proposed Amendment language?
2. Four (4) year extension for Executive Committee Officials (Amendment B) language
caused serious questions and conflicts with current Constitution.
3. Election Process should continue.

AST Newsletter- Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) Programs
June 2019
The CCDF Programs would like to congratulate all students for completing another school year. We congratulate all those who are graduating and moving on to the
next phase of their lives. We wish all students a safe and happy summer!
The ASP Shawnee programs had their end of the year event and were able to
celebrate a year of hard work and dedication to learning with the ASP students.
With the closing of the school year, the After School Programs will end until the
fall. The ASP Shawnee location will re-open when school starts in August. Be
on the lookout for information regarding those programs if you are interested in
enrollment.
The CCDF Programs will again be offering a Summer School Age Program this
year. It will be similar to the program last year located on the AST Complex. We
are currently in the process of onboarding the staff and finalizing the enrollment.
We will be having a Parent/Student Orientation for attendees on May 28th at 5:30p
at the Health Multipurpose on the AST Complex. We had a limited number of
spots and as our program grows so does the interest and we are happy to report we
are full. But we are also sad we cannot accept everyone. We do have a waiting
list if anyone is interested in being added if any spots become available. We look
forward to a fun but enriching summer!
The CCDF Subsidy Program is in the first year of 12 month eligibility so renewals
happen as the 12 month eligibility expires. For families who may be interested in
child care assistance and cannot get assistance through OKDHS, please contact
me regarding subsidy. The application and information regarding subsidy and
provider selection can be found on the AST Website under Services/Child Care.
We also offer a three (3) month job search for families who may be experiencing a
loss of employment but still have child care needs. Families will need to reside in
the AST CCDF Service area of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and McClain
counties. They can choose any DHS licensed provide or see enrollment with one
of our AST Building Blocks Child Development Centers.
Our goals through the CCDF grant, Building Blocks enterprise and the After
School Programs is to provide quality child care to Native and non-native children in our communities. We do this by our innovative ideas on curriculum and
staying abreast of all training and requirements to maintain higher levels of care.
We strive to be the best and be better than the best every day.
If you are interested in any of these programs or have any questions please feel
free to contact me at the number above or by email, briana.ponkilla@astribe.com.

Title VI News
World Elder Abuse Awareness
Day – June 15, 2019
It can be hard to imagine that
anyone would deliberately want to
harm an elderly person, but unfortunately, elder abuse does occur. Some
instances of elder abuse are intended to exploit the person financially;
you’ve probably heard of scams targeting seniors. In other cases, caretakers simply don’t provide the basic necessities, like nutritious food,
appropriate medication, safety, or
assistance with hygiene. Help spread
the word this June 15, which is
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
If you see something, say something.
Many seniors are not in a
place to stand up for themselves,
whether it’s because they’re physically frail or because they’re scared
of speaking up and fear repercussions. It’s crucial for all of us to be
on the lookout for signs of elder
abuse, and to speak up if something
seems wrong.
It’s easy to see bad things and
not say anything—whether that’s
senior abuse, or a mugging on the
street. But this holiday reminds us
just how important it is to look after,
and look out for, our fellow humans.
It reminds us to exercise compassion
on a daily basis, and care about others rather than just ourselves.
If you do detect signs of
abuse, document them. Take pictures
of bruises or injuries, get a statement
from the victim or any witnesses,
and keep a log of any suspicious
behavior or circumstances. You can
then address your concerns with the
manager or director of the long-term
care facility or home care provider;
if they do not take action, contact the
police or an elder abuse attorney.

How to Calculate Total Gas Volume
The total volume of severed oil taxable products—before any deductions are
taken for processing, transportation, industry-standard shrinkage, etc.—is
measured either according to current contracts of sale between the operator/
producer and the purchaser; or in barrels of 42 U.S. gallons of 231 cubic inches
per gallon, at a temperature of 60° F, per U.S. Geological Survey regulations.
The total volume of severed gas taxable products is measured at
the wellhead—before any deductions are taken for processing,
transportation, industry-standard shrinkage, etc.—in units of
1,000 cubic feet (MCF) and corrected to standard temperature

ASTHS June
Monthly Update
the program culminates with a ceremony with parents and friends celebrating
their accomplishment. The goal of the
program is to attract tribal youth into
health career fields and professional careers by exposing them to these various
professionals and helping them decide
early on what may be of interest to them
and vector them into a future within the
health programs.
We will be having preventative testing
and other health awareness programs for
Men’s Health Month in June. We continue to work with the Self-Governance
and Health Programs Shawnee Service
Unit (SSU) Coalitions to improve patient care and experiences for our area
and our patients with best practices and
innovative cooperation on community health programs. We appreciate the
leadership and support of the AST Tribe
and other tribes in working together to
better all of our programs and services
in our area!
We are always thankful and very
proud of our outstanding star performers, and thank them all for their contributions to our patients, their fellow
employees, and the tribe! Employee
Awards and awardees are listed below.
The AST Health System always strives
to make your health its top priority, and
you all make a difference for our health
system and the health and wellness of
all of our patients!
By Mark E. Rogers, MAL, FACHE,
CMPE, CHC
AST Health Systems Executive
Director
The health system achieved its re-accreditation for another 3 years recently after an in-depth assessment by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory
Health Care (AAAHC) of all programs
and services meeting (or exceeding in
most cases with our system) the National Standards of Patient Care, Safety and
Quality! AAAHC, founded in 1979,
is an American organization which accredits ambulatory health care organizations, including ambulatory surgery
centers, office-based surgery centers,
endoscopy centers, and college student
health centers, as well as health plans,
such as health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations. The AAAHC survey model is
one of cooperation and education. It is
unique in offering accreditation surveys
that are conducted by professionals who
are actively involved in ambulatory care
and have first-hand understanding of the
specific issues facing the facilities they
survey within Indian Country today.
Surveyors assess how an organization
meets prevailing Standards and share
their knowledge and experience with
others to help ambulatory service providers maintain high standards. I want
to personally thank the entire health
system and the health team for their
excellent efforts! Our summer intern
program will be entering its third year
in 2019! Native American AST Tribal
Students will have the opportunity to
experience the entire health system’s
operations, work in a paid position
throughout the summer months, and
graduate the program with both work
experience in the healthcare setting as
well as a letter of recommendation from
the health system for successful completion of the program. Graduation of

It can be a great challenge to find time to exercise during the week. Driving from work to gym
and then back home can be tiresome. However, working out at home will help you to become
more consistent and less self-conscious. The AST Diabetes and Wellness Program is happy to
provide you with a simple home exercise routine to help you get active! Perform each illustrated
exercise below for 30 seconds, then rest for 30 seconds. Perform all eight exercises below. If you
do not possess weights, fill a few plastic jugs up with water (make sure they’re twist cap jugs)
and use them as your weights. Perform each round 2-3 times, then rest for two minutes.

Cultural Preservation
The Cultural Preservation Department has been busy the past month with
hosting events and being involved with other tribal programs. Following is
a summary of the department’s most recent activities:
Special Event. The Cultural Preservation Department held an Open House
on May 9. The Open House was a huge success! There were about 75
guests in attendance. Guests were treated to a tour, historical information
about the Absentee Shawnee, and refreshments. On behalf of the Cultural
Preservation Department “ Neyiwa”—“Thank You” for all of your support,
prayers and encouraging kind words that each of you relayed to the CP
staff. It was a good day!
Grants. Cultural Preservation staff along with the AST Grants staff completed and submitted two applications to help enhance the CP Department.
One submission is to provide enhancement to the library and current services. The other application is for the benefit and planning for our language
preservation program. If the grant is awarded to the AST, we are hopeful
that the funding will enable the CP department to hire more staff such as a
linguist and language instructor to help build a successful language program.
Youth Outreach. The CP Department staff has met with the Moore Public
School Indian Education Coordinator, Patrick Tsotigh, to discuss working
in partnership with the Moore school system to provide historical education about the AST people and the uniqueness of AST. Also, the CP staff
continues their efforts to engage the local high school American Indian
Clubs. Since the current school term is ending, the staff will begin working on plans for next year’s activities and projects to enhance CP’s involvement with these youth clubs.
In May, the CP staff, led by Devon Frazier, THPO, engaged Building
Blocks staff in the coordination of a Mother’s Day project. CP Department
hosted this event at its “house” and provided all supplies for this event.
With the help of BB staff, potted small individual flowers surprise gifts for
the children’s mothers. A fun time was had by all!
FCC/TCNS. The CP staff has completed 103 projects for March and 164
completed projects for Section 106 in April. In March and April the TCNS
received 438 projects and completed 362 reviews.
Gift Shop. Currently the gift shop has increased the sales from 2018 to
present by 47.29%. We are working on getting additional spring and summer merchandise in the shop. We do have the Minnetonka sandals and they
sale really quickly. We just got in some new Pendleton towels and cups.
Come and check out the new items.
AICCM. The CP Director recently met with the Oklahoma City American
Indian Cultural Center and Museum. The meeting topic was discussion
about exhibits and objects that had been chosen to be featured in the AICCM.
Trainings/Conferences. The Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and
Specialist attended training for the Nation Preservation Institute (NPI). The
material from the training was focused on the NAGPRA and ARPA application process and the requirements. The training also provided insight to
the current laws and regulations and addressed the past wrong doings that
has been historically committed to Native Americans and the remains of
our ancestors.

Building Blocks III
Building Blocks III has been very busy with some changes that have taken place.
We have welcomed our new Assistant Director, Skye Foreman, and we feel as
though we could not have found a better fit for the position. We would like to thank
our parents of Building Blocks III for their patience during these changes and their
understanding that we strive to provide the best possible of care for our families
and will do whatever it takes to keep their child/children safe.
Building Blocks III currently has 32 children enrolled and 17 staff members with
new members to be employed in the near future. For instance, we would like to
welcome our new Master Teacher, Ms. Sarah to our work family. We are still holding interviews for Master Teacher, Asst. Teacher and Floater positions.
We just had our DHS visit on May 15th which went well, we were proven to be
incompliance with all DHS Policies. On April 26th we completed a Conscious
Discipline Training with the staff of Building Blocks II and look forward to doing
more with the Staff of Building Blocks II in the future. It was nice to see our staff
get a chance to network with each other. We have recently held a First Aid & CPR
training for our employees. I, Rebecca Jones, have been attending a Supervisor
Training which has been held by HR, thank you ladies for the opportunity to expand and grow as a Supervisor. Also, I have been attending the Leadership Academy and have had the opportunity to network with 23 Directors in the Early Child
Care field. I am happy to announce that I will be Graduating the Leadership Academy on June 7th, which is my birthday, so it will be a joyous day full of celebration.
In March Building Blocks III had our Easter Pictures and held a “zoo to you” the
week of Spring Break. Thanks to everyone who came to learn about the exotic
animals with us. We celebrated our 2nd year Anniversary on April 8th and hope to
celebrate many more years to come. It was great to see the parents and children
having fun looking for Easter Eggs at our annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 18th.
The children enjoyed celebrating Earth Day on April 22nd and we would like to
send a special thank you to OEC for the goodie bags they sent for the children full
of fun Earth Day activities for them to do . We would like send a special thank
you to Cultural Preservation for bringing flowers for the children to give to their
mommies at our Mother’s Day celebration which we held on May 9th, the children
enjoyed sharing Muffins with Moms for breakfast.

We would like to invite everyone to join us for our Open House to be held on the
evening of May 31st, 5pm – 7pm and would like to invite all other departments to
join us as well.
The toddlers, twos, threes and fours enjoyed their trip to the Zoo on May 10th and
look forward to many more field trips to come over the summer.
