Financial Assistance Award Intent To Award a Grant to National

Coal Association

AGENCY: U.S. Department of Energy.

ACTION: Notice of noncompetitive financial assistance award.

SUMMARY: The Department of Energy announces that pursuant to 10 CFR

600.6(a)(5), it is making a discretionary financial assistance award,

based on the criteria set forth at 10 CFR 600.7(b)(2)(i)(B), to the

National Coal Association, under Grant Number DE-FG01-94FE63243.

Performance under the proposed grant will be utilized to prepare a

report on the many areas of modern coal technology. The Department of

Energy will provide an estimated $75,000 of the proposed $135,000

budget to perform the literary searches, data collection and the report

preparation.

SCOPE: The Department of Energy has determined in accordance with 10

CFR 600.7(b)(2)(i)(B) that a noncompetitive award based on the

application submitted by the National Coal Association is in the public

interest. This grant will bring together, in a single report, the many

areas of modern coal technologies and technological innovations

including: exploration, mining, coal cleaning, preparation,

reclamation, environmental protection, transportation and combustion.

The anticipated period of performance for this grant is nine months

from the effective date of award.
