Your Shipment Quickly; To Give You the Simplest Shipping
Paperwork Possible; To Be Accessible with 40,000
Convenient FedEx Drop-off Locations; To Be Available With
Answers 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days A Week; To Make

National Network to Serve More than 210 Countries; To Give
You More Value with New Distance-Based U.S. Rates and
New Deferred Services for Your Packages and Heavy Boxes
Worldwide.
New Service, New Rates, Same Great Quality
MORE SERVICE OPTIONS FROM FEDEX. Fed Ex is
adding new express services for your less time-sensitive
shipments, so you can have the benefits you need most
(dependability and tracking) at some of our most cost-effective
rates ever. With FedEx Express Saver®, we deliver anywhere
in the continental U.S. In 3 business days (still faster than
many other carriers), and we are expanding our popular
FedEx International Economy™ to major regions of the
world. NEW RATE STRUCTURE. Wouldn’t you like to
pay less for U.S. shipments when you ship shorter distances?
FedEx now rates U.S. shipments generally according to the
distance between you and your recipient. This permits our
rates to more accurately reflect the cost of providing service
to you. Now great FedEx quality and value is within reach for
all your express shipments! As usual, all FedEx electronic
offerings calculate rate information automatically. FedEx
service guide rates are also available on our web site
(www.fedex.com). Finally, we have separated courier pickup
charges from the transportation cost for U.S. domestic and
U.S. export shipments; see page 5 for details. GREAT NEWS
FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPERS. To give you more
flexibility and value in shipping to CANADA, we lowered
56a
many regular FedEx international priority® rates to most
major cities in Canada. We added an 8 a.m. delivery
commitment to several European cities from the United States
via FedEx International First™ to respond to your need for
faster transit times. We also made it easier to ship
internationally with two sizes of ready-to-ship boxes. Pack
them with up to a whopping 22 Ibs. (10kg) or 55 Ibs. (25kg),
and for a flat fee send them via FedEx International Priority
service to your international destination.
U. S. SERVICES
FedEx is your comfortable choice for reliability,
consistency, innovation and speed. And now you get more
value, too, with lower rates for your shorter-distance U.S.
shipments!
All U.S. services are backed by our money-back
guarantees. Prepare your shipment in seconds using our
quick and easy airbills or electronic shipping options, then
drop it off at one of our 40,000 convenient drop-off locations.

Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials
Because regulations governing proper handling and
transport of hazardous materials require specialized handling
and special load allocations, special handling fees for both
accessible and inaccessible classes of dangerous goods apply.
FedEx strives to keep these costs to a minimum while meeting
applicable standards for service, regulatory compliance, safety
and reliability.
More than 3,000 commonly shipped materials are
classified and regulated as “dangerous” by the U.S.
Department of Transportation (DOT). In fact, many of the
items you use every day contain volatile, flammable or
otherwise potentialiy hazardous materials.
Dangerous goods require special packaging, marking,
labeling and documentation; they may not be shipped in any
FedEx packaging. Shipments of certain classes of hazardous
materials may require additional preparation and preapproval.
74a
FedEx works closely with the agencies that regulate
dangerous-goods transportation, and we maintain an in-depth
knowledge of all regulations governing them. We can help
you determine if the.commodity you are shipping falls into
one of nine DOT-defined hazard classes listed below:
Class 1: Explosives: fireworks, bullets and shotgun shells
Class 2: Gases: aerosols, liquid nitrogen, cigarette lighters
Class 3: Flammable liquids: alcohols, gasoline, gas-
powered equipment, paint and perfume
Class 4: Flammable solids: matches
Class 5: Oxidizers and organic peroxides: oxygen
generators
Class 6: Poisons and infectious substances: cyanide, body

PACKAGING TIPS
Here are a few simple reminders to help your package
move safely through our system. For assistance, please
contact the FedEx packaging design and development
department at (800)633-7019.
FedEx Packaging Tips
1. SELECT PROPER PACKAGING
@ Please don’t ship heavier items than your packaging calls
for.
@ If you have chipboard boxes (including many retail gift
boxes), place
94a
them inside a corrugated box.
We recommend your package be at least 7" x 4" x 2" if
you want to attach an airbill’ to it. Anything smaller
should go into a FedEx Pak, provided it isn’t fragile.
If your item’s outer finishing might be damaged by
adhesive labels, soiling or marking, or if it might burst
open during transit, please place it in a protective
container. You can order tie-on airbill pouches by calling
1-800-Go-FedEx (800-463-3339).
2. USE FILLERS AND CUSHIONING MATERIAL
a
e
Use fillers to protect your contents inside the box, and
make sure nothing is moving around loose.
Wrap each item individually with cushioning material and
center it in the box, away from other items and the edges
of the box.
Make sure you have at least 2" of cushioning material at
top, sides and bottom — more for delicate items.
Heavy metal items are best suited for heavy-duty,
corrugated cardboard cartons.
SEAL YOUR PACKAGE
Check for sharp, protruding edges or points. If you find
any, coverthem with firmly taped corrugated panels or
pads.
Before sealing the box, place the shipper’s address and
phone and the recipient’s address and phone (or
fax)inside.
Then seal your shipment well with three 2"-wide,
pressure-sensitive strips of plastic tape at top and bottom.
Airbill or air waybill refers to any shipping document,
manifest, FedEx PowerShip label, FedEx Ship airbill or similar
item used in the FedEx system.
95a
@® You'll want to avoid wrapping paper, household
cellophane tape, masking tape, water-activated tape, string
and rope.
4. ADDRESSING AND LABELING
@ Remove any old labels from the package.
@ Include the recipient’s address and your return address on
the address label.
@ Your recipient’s ZIP code or U.S. postal code must be for
a Street address, not a post office box. (FedEx can deliver
to post office boxes overseas, but not in the U.S. We can’t
deliver to U.S. military post office box addresses such as
APO and FPO, either.)
@ Labels and bar codes will scan properly if they are free
from wrinkles and dirt.
@ FedEx cannot assure that “Up” arrows or “This End Up”
markings can be observed, but if you place your airbill or
label on the top of your package, you have a better chance
of getting your preferred orientation. We do not honor
“fragile” or other special handling labels.
5. SHIP YOUR PACKAGE
Drop your shipment off at a FedEx World Service Center,
FedEx Authorized ShipCenter or FedEx Drop Box, or call 1-
800-Go-FedEx(800-463-3339) to schedule a pickup.
Explanation of FedEx U.S. Service Area Codes

* Cartage Agent Service Areas. FedEx will make
arrangements with third-party cartage agents for pickups from
and/or deliveries to H3 areas and estimate the transit time for
the cartage agent. An H3 pickup or delivery charge of $50
applies. The Money-Back Guarantee applies only to the
portion of the move handled directly by FedEx.
** Delivery generally in 1 business day for shipments moving
up to 150 miles; generally in 2 business days for shipments
moving 151-1,000 miles; and generally in 3 business days for
shipments moving over 1,000 miles.
U.S. RATES
What if you could get the legendary reliability, 24-hour
shipment-status tracking, personable couriers and precision-
driven network of FedEx at new, lower rates? It’s yours with
Sn cg na SL cmc oes acne

our new distance-based pricing when you ship shorter
distances, and with the additivn of new FedEx Express Saver®
service. Now you can treat all your U.S. express shipments
to the quality of FedEx, at rates that give you more value than
ever before.
U.S. Rates
You'll see that these rates are organized by region. Each
region represents a different mileage break. You can easily
calculate your rate by determining your destination region
with the FedEx Region Locator. To get one, use our Region
Locator fax-on-demand service at (888)333-3947, or call us
at lo8000GooFedEx (800-463-3339). Region Locators are also
available on our Web site at www.fedex.com. These rates
apply to U.S. domestic packages and freight, so you can use
these rates for all your shipments. FedEx SameDaye rates
remain unchanged.
FREE FEDEX® SHIPPING TOOLS MAKE IT EASY
As always, FedEx electronic offerings can give you prompt
rate and region information, so you don’t need to look up a
thing. Just choose your service, key in a destination ZIP code,
and calculations are done automatically. If you’re an Internet
user, you can find FedEx Service Guide rates and region
information on-line. Read more about our popular FedEx Ship
software, FedEx PowerShip systems and Web site
(www.fedex.com) shipping resources m all free for your use
on pp. 18-19.
THESE ARE DROP-OFF RATES
FedEx now _ separates courier pickup charges from
transportation costs so you can more easily see your charges

for each. The rates in this guide apply to all packages dropped
off at one of our more than 40,000 convenient drop-off
locations. They also apply if you have a regular pickup with
FedEx (see below). If you prefer to have a courier pick up
your package, add $3 per package (or $3 per shipment for
U.S. export shipments) to the rates shown here. This wil] be
itemized separately on your invoice as a courier pickup
charge. This charge does not apply to freight weighing 151
lbs. or more per piece.
REGULAR PICKUP
These rates also apply if you participate in a regular pickup
program with FedEx. You may qualify to become a regular
stop if you have sufficient regular volume. Please check with
your FedEx courier or call 1-800-Go-FedEx (800-463-3339)
to see whether you might be eligible.
SHIPMENTS FOR ALASKA, HAWAII AND PUERTO
RICO
Rates for Alaska and Hawaii start on p. 46. To better reflect
transportation costs, you will notice that Alaska/Hawaii
regions (9-16) are organized by metro and rural, and inbound
and outbound. Puerto Rico rates begin on p. 59.
TEMPORARY FUEL SURCH.» RGE
Due to the potential for significant fluctuations in the market
for aviation and vehicle fuel, FedEx reserves the right to
assess a temporary fuel surcharge on any shipments without
notice. Any such surcharge will be applied for such periods
as we may determine necessary. On February 3, 1997,
FedEx instituted a 2% temporary fuel adjustment, which
110a
remains in effect as of the issuance date of this FedEx
Service Guide.
AIR TRANSPORTATION TAX INCLUDED
A federal excise tax when required by the Internal Revenue
Code on the air transportation portion of our services, if any,
is paid by us.
DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT
FedEx may assess transportation charges based on the
volumetric standard. Dimensional weight for shipments
traveling within the U.S. is calculated by multiplying the
length by width by height of each package in inches and
dividing by 194. If the dimensional weight exceeds the actual
weight, you will be charged based on the dimensional weight.
Dimensions of 1/2" or greater are rounded up to the next
whole number; dimensions less than 1/2" are rounded down.
The final calculation is rounded up to the whole pound.
Dimensional weight can be applied to packages or shipments
in customer packaging (not FedEx packaging) with a package
greater than 12" x 12" x 12".
How to Use the Following Rate Tables
1 Find your destination zip code in the FedEx region locator
and see which region your destination zip corresponds to.
2 Turn to the appropriate region and determine the weight
of your shipment.
3 See your rate under the column for the FedEx Service of
your choice.

Additional Information
DECLARED VALUE
The maximum declared value for any FedEx Letter and
FedEx Pak in a shipment is $500. For items in other
packaging, the maximum declared value is $50,000. Please
see “Declared Value” in the Service Conditions section for
details. Declared value charges are determined as follows:
ao
Shipment Value Charges
$.00-$100 ; $.00
$100.01-$500 $2.50 minimum
$500.01-$50,000 $.50 per $100 of value
maximum per package
HUNDREDWEIGHT/PER-POUND RATES
Multiple-piece shipments on a single FedEx® USA Airbill to
one destination are rated on a price-per-package basis and on
a price-per-total-shipment-weight (hundredweight) basis
(assuming a 100-Ib. total weight minimum and a minimum per
piece charge equal to the 5-Ib. rate per package). You are
billed the lower of the two rates. See charts entitled
“Hundredweight/Per-Pound Rates” on pp. 50-51.
MULTIPLE-PACKAGE SHIPMENTS
Multiple-package shipments will be accepted as one piece if
the shipment is shrink-wrapped or banded together to form a
123a
single handling unit. Individual packages in a multiple-piece
shipment may have different weights, dimensions and
declared value. However, they all must move together on the
same airbill on the same day from one sender to one recipient
(up to 999 packages can be on the same airbill), use the same
service, have the same delivery and special handling
instructions, and be billed to the same party, and each piece
in the shipment must weigh 150 Ibs. or less.
EXTRA-LARGE PACKAGES
Pieces that exceed 165” in length and girth combined are
considered to be U.S. Domestic Freight Service shipments.
Here’s how to calculate the length and girth of a package:
length plus {2 times the height} plus {2 times the width}. If
the dimension includes a fraction, a fraction % or greater will
be rounded up to the next whole number; less than ' will be
rounded down to the next whole number. Maximum
dimensions for FedEx Overnight Freight and FedEx 2Day
Freight shipments are 119” in length, 70” in height, or 300”
in length plus girth. FedEx Express Saver Freight shipments
or pieces not palletized, banded and/or shrink-wrapped, not
stackable, and/or exceeding 284” in length and girth with
limits of 48” in length, 48” in width and 70” in height, will
not be accepted.

FedEx now separates courier pickup charges from
transportation costs so you can easily see your charges for
each. The rates in this guide apply to all shipments dropped
off at one of over 40,000 convenient drop-off locations. If you
request a courier pickup, you should add $3 per shipment to
these rates for U.S. export services. This charge will appear
separately on your invoice as a courier pickup charge. This
charge may not apply if you have regular pickups with
FedEx. For more information about your nearest drop-off
location or regular pickups, call us at (800)247-4747. A list

_ TEMPORARY FUEL SURCHARGE
Due to the potential for significant fluctuations in the market
for aviation and vehicle fuel, FedEx reserves the right to
assess a temporary fuel surcharge on any shipments without
notice. Any such surcharge will be applied for such periods
as we may determine necessary. On February 3, 1997,
FedEx instituted a 2% temporary fuel adjustment, which
remains in effect as of the issuance date of this FedEx
Service Guide.
