Allotments were issued to the 551 tribal members present in 1892, and the Tribe forced to cede the un-allotted reservation lands. Although future allotments were promised from the ceded area, none were issued. For that reason, and others, tribal members sometimes took 4th Section Allotments and Indian Homesteads within the original reservation or elsewhere within our ancestral homelands. One must consider the Roseburg Agency Allotments and other land opportunities to fully understand Siletz Allotment history. Also, tribal member children who otherwise qualified for Siletz Reservation Allotments were denied one by the Agent if they had resided “off reservation”. * Because of forced fee policy (Siletz Indian Inherited Lands Act - 1901), by 1912, over half of the Siletz Allotments were non-Indian owned. Loss of Indian ownership continued until Western Oregon Termination Act finalized in 1956. * Survey Error – after the 1865 Executive Order was signed, surveyors wandered from the intended East-West line on the coast near Moolack Beach, resulting in a long, narrow triangle of land being mistakenly excluded from the remaining reservation. * School and Agency Farm – in 1892, tribal members asked to have allotments issued from the farm, and the Agent refused. The U.S. reserved it for government purposes under the 1892 Agreement and when the Siletz Boarding School was converted to a Day School in 1908, the School and Agency Farm was divided into town lots
