SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

Background

On July 11, 1995, a document was published in the Federal Register
(60 FR 35792) containing a notice of the receipt of a domestic
interested party petition regarding the country of origin marking
requirements of prescription safety glasses as set forth in
Headquarters Letter Ruling (HLR) 734258, dated January 2, 1992. The
document solicited comments that were to be received on or before
September 11, 1995. Customs has been requested to extend the period of
time for comments in order to afford interested parties additional time
to study the proposed regulations and prepare responsive comment. In
view of the complexity and importance of the petition and its effect on
the country of origin marking of safety glasses, Customs believes that
the request for an extension of time should be granted. Accordingly,
the period of time for the submission of comments is being extended to
October 11, 1995.

Approved: September 6, 1995.
Stuart P. Seidel,
Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Office of Regulations & Rulings.
